The Heart of Rock and Soul

Dave Marsh, 1989

97 A FINE FINE BOY, Darlene Love
Produced by Phil Spector; written by Phil Spector, Ellie Greenwich, and Jeff Barry
Philles 117 - 1963
Billboard: #53

You call the way Love sings testifying. It's a good thing Hal Blaine and Phil Spector are here, too, because they're about the only people in pop who could find a way to keep up with her. For that matter, when she lets loose with a "Yeah" or charges back in after the sax break, everybody gets left in the dust.
By the way, who says that rock and roll objectifies only women?
